At first I thought of it some sort of currency as well maybe a taiwanese or a chinese word. As most of us know, a number of taiwanese words and names have "X" like xiao yu.

I think it has been derived from Chemistry and as every metal and element has its symbol so the same way Gold has its symbol which is XAU.
